Customize your WorkBase domain for free or connect your own domain to your WorkBase! We'll take you through how to do all of this.

But first let's first go through some terminology...

  • Domain: is a part of a URL and is used to identify the website. It is a human-readable address used to access a website.

Eg: https://www.example.com/page1.html is the URL from which "example.com" is the domain

  • Subdomain: is a subdivision of a larger domain. It is used to organize and navigate to different sections of a website.

Eg: blog.example.com where "blog" is the subdomain of example.com

  • Custom domain: is a unique domain name that you have purchased and registered for your business from a DNS hosting provider. It is personalized to your business and any changes to your domain are managed within the domain settings of your DNS hosting provider's website.

    Eg: mybusiness.com

Option 1: Subdomain

Syft WorkBase allows you to specify a subdomain that will be part of the "syftworkbase" domain. Navigate to the "Setup and styling" tab and scroll to the domain section. Enter a subdomain name and click "Publish WorkBase", as shown in the image below.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Example

J's Cupcake Company would like her WorkBase to have the subdomain "jscupcakecompany" and enters this name in the space provided.

Thus, the URL she can now use to access J's Cupcake Company's WorkBase is:

Option 2: Custom domain

Alternatively, add your WorkBase to your own custom domain by clicking "Connect your own domain" within the "Setup and styling" tab.

Using a custom domain for your WorkBase entails setting up a subdomain within your domain settings through your domain DNS hosting provider. Follow the steps below to do this:

  1. Access your domain's DNS management by logging in to your domain registrar's control panel and find the section for managing DNS records. This may be called "DNS Management," "Name Server Management," or similar.

  2. Create a new CNAME record: Look for the option to add a new record and choose "CNAME" as the type. Fill in the following information:
Host: Enter your desired subdomain (e.g., "whitelabel").

  3. Save and wait: Save the new record and wait for it to propagate. This can take anywhere from a few hours to several days.

  4. Verify: Once propagated, visit your subdomain and ensure it correctly points to the white-labeling platform.

  5. Enter this domain into the pop-up on WorkBase as a URL

  6. Click "Save"

After you have entered your domain in the pop-up window then it will be pending activation by Syft WorkBase. Once it is activated, this custom domain will then be where visitors will access your WorkBase.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Example

Since J's Cupcake Company's website domain is "jscupcakes.com", J has chosen her custom domain and subdomain for her WorkBase to be "info.jscupcakes.com". She follows the steps above and her custom domain has now been activated.

Thus, the URL she can now use to access J's Cupcake Company's WorkBase is:

Instead of:

You can revert this by clicking "Unlink your custom domain". After clicking this, your WorkBase will then be hosted at https://jscupcakecompany.syftworkbase.com as in Option 1.
